Cultural Singapore

Jonna and I love to go out and explore Singapore.
I think the FOM (Friends of the Museum) program is one of the best.
Here we are exploring the last remaining Kampung (village) in Singapore.
Pre 1965, nearly all of Singapore lived this way.....

Another great tour we did recently is the Navarathi Night Tour,
I can't get enough of the color, vibrance and beauty of Indian culture.

Malaysia Road Trip - Kuala Selangor

Three years in Singapore and this is our FIRST road trip!
The kids were very excited.

We did drive by Kuala Lumpur a couple of times to get to various destinations, but we didn't stay as we've already visited in the past...very cool to see the famous Petronas Towers from the freeway though.

Our first stop was the Firefly Park in Kuala Selangor, we stayed at a very simple cabin right in the park.

When it got dark, we got into little boats to go up the river to see the magical fireflies aglow in the bushes of the river.
A lovely National Geo moment!

We went on a tram tour of the town and Bukit Merah park.

Then onto the waterfront of Kuala Selangor for
some seafood - this area is known for delicious crab.

Selangor is also famous for it's dry salted fish.

Malaysia Road Trip - Cameron Highlands

My favorite part of the road trip was definitely Cameron Highlands.  It was gorgeous!  We loved being in cooler / dryer temperatures too.  The tea plantations were breathtaking.

Our Hotel Balas was very quaint in a tudor-style schoolhouse;
however, it was FREEZING at night
and we had to really bundle up.

The kids' favorite stop was the STRAWBERRY FARM.
It was tacky tourist fun, but so delicious!

We enjoyed some beautiful rain forest hikes in the area.

Boys' pit stop.

Family fun!  I love it when my kids are out in nature.

We went to the beautiful Lakehouse Hotel with our
French friends the Parot family.  We enjoyed dinner
together and relaxing by the fire.

Last views of Cameron Highland in the morning light before heading out to our next stop.

Malaysia Road Trip - Club Med Cherating Beach

For the children, their highlight was definitely CLUB MED and all the beach fun and club activities.
Malaysia definitely has some world-class beaches!

We loved the various choices of resturants at the resort,
our favorite was the beachside grill.

The Brodd family joined us in Cherating Beach.
We loved every hour together as the kids had a blast!

Malaysia Road Trip - Malacca Heritiage UNESCO town

I love the city of Malacca, I've been there with Jonna for the day, and I've been wanting to return to take the family.  The Puri Hotel (above) is a gorgeous Peranakan Boutique Hotel that I'd highly recommend b/c it's in the heart of the city.

Malacca Town Square and Christ Church
both have beautiful Dutch influence.

Bike ride tour of the city is the best way to see Malacca.

Cheng Hoon Teng Chinese Temple,
oldest temple in Malacca (17th Century)

Malay Heritage Trail -
kids learned how cooking was done in old Malay style

Porta de Santiago - Portuguse ruins are situated on a hill so the kids enjoyed running around.

Fun on old Portuguese Ships at the Maritime Museum.

The night market on Jonker street was just
right in front of our hotel -
perfect sightseeing trip!
